Behold the Lamb of God

Dec 17, 2023    Jamie Lambert

John 1:29 and 36.

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God,

who takes away the sin of the world!

36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

Genesis 3:15 15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your

offspring a and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Exodus 12:3, 5-7, 12 -13

3 Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to

take a lamb t for his family, one for each household. 5 The animals you choose must be

year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. 6 Take

care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the

community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. 7 Then they are to take some of the

blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the

lambs. 12 “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of

both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the

LORD. 13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the

blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.

Leviticus 5:6  As a penalty for the sin they have committed, they must bring to the LORD a

female lamb or goat from the flock as a sin offering; and the priest shall make atonement

for them for their sin.

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make

atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.

Galatians 3:24 So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified

by faith.

Romans 3:20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the

law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

Isaiah 53:4-7

4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by

God, stricken by him, and afflicted.

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the

punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD

has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to

the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

Revelations 5:12

12 In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power

and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”

Revelations 17:14

14 They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is

Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful

followers.”

Revelations 21:22-23

22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its

temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God

gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

1 Corinthians 5:7  Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as

you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

1 Peter 1:18-20 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or

gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your

ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20 He

was chosen before the creation of the world but was revealed in these last times for your

sake.

1 Peter 2:24 24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to

sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Hebrews 9:22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and

without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Isaiah 53:6 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way;

and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Rom 3:11-12 10 As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; 11 there is no one

who understands; there is no one who seeks God. 12 All have turned away, they have

together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Luke 22:39-44 39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed

him. 40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41

He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you

are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43 An angel from

heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more

earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

John 14:21 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one

who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to

them.”

John 15:10 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my

Father’s commands and remain in his love.

1 John 2:3-6 3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.

4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is

not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in

them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus

did.

James 1:13-15 13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot

be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own

evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth

to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

James 4:7-10 7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8

Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify

your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to

mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you

up.

Romans 13:14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about

how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And

God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are

tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Romans 8:5 Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what

that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set

on what the Spirit desires.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the

renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his

good, pleasing and perfect will.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and

purify us from all unrighteousness.
